Glider on Tow

What does Warwick Gliding do?

Glider on approach.

We are a Warwick University sports club that aims to help and encourage people to be glider pilots. You don't need any experience to join the club and subject to some height/weight restrictions, we are happy to take anyone on one of our frequent day trips. We have members ranging from complete beginners to experienced cross-country pilots

Subject to weather conditions, we aim to run trips every weekend and also offer week long courses during the Easter and Summer vacation and Thursday evening courses during Term 3. We also run trial flight days for new members a few times a year.

Is it expensive?

MoneyMoneyMoneyMoney.....

Contrary to what you might think, we make gliding a very reasonably priced sport. A 10 minute winch launch from either Stratford-On-Avon or The Gliding Centre costs £6 and £7.75 respectively. We also give you your first and every tenth flight free.

It costs the standard £5 to join UWGC and you need to be a member of Warwick Sport.

What do we fly?

An SZD Junior.

We have access to dual control gliders for instruction and single seaters for experienced pilots. Dual controls allow you to fly with an instructor so that both of you have complete control over the aircraft.

For those of you aware of gliding, or who are current pilots, The Gliding Centre has an all-glass fleet of 2x ASK-21s, 2x Puchaczs, 2x SZD Juniors (Single Seater), 2x Discus' (Single Seater) and a Duo Discus. Stratford has a mixture of wooden/fibreglass gliders: K13s, a K21, a K8 (Single Seater), K18 (Single Seater) and an SZD Junior (Single Seater).

Is it safe?

Gliding is a very safe sport, it is around 30 times safer than driving. When you are learning, you will always fly with a highly qualified instructor (usually with thousands of hours experience in the air). Gliders are checked for airworthiness daily and are subject to more rigorous annual checkups. More Info
